crisis of yarn

At school we address art and the validity of art with the questions What is art? Is that art? etc etc. So what is yarn? When people ask me that question, my most basic answer is fiber with a twist on it. If you hold a length of fiber between your hands, and twist one end with your fingers while keeping the other hand still, you get what looks like a little piece of string, and that's yarn. There are so many materials in the world, so many fibers that could potentially be twisted. People are spinning newspaper for yarn, I just now read more about it. And there is a class of yarn called art yarn, which blurs the art and Craft line, if only through the use of language. In the last year I have been asked to look at art v. Craft in a new way. My initial ideas were about fine art and fine craft (Craft). Now I keep stumbling on craft being referred to as art, and I don't like it, and now I wonder if I'm an artist at all, maybe I'm a Craftsman. I haven't worked all this out yet, and maybe I'll move onto the next thing before I do.
