at the supermarket a lot of the time there are bonus items taped to other items, to sweeten the deal when shopping. I've seen Tupperware taped to both yogurt and spam packages. I saw a sieve taped to a package of flour. When I bought the chicken there was a package taped to it, as well. I think it's soup seasoning, but it looks like a bag of broken branches. I'm going to take it into the office and ask a co-worker what it really is. Next time I'll try to make it to the traditional market so I can buy a chicken from the chicken and egg lady.
