nudity

I've been thinking a lot about nudity in art. Painting and photography mostly. I don't paint, but I do photograph, and I want to use nudity. So what does it all mean? I emailed my photo prof today and mentioned to him these quandaries. My ideas concern vulnerability and aggression. These are the paintings that best represent my ideas and questions, respectively. Ingres' Grande Odalisque. As a side note, both of these paintings were commissioned by male patrons, so nudity in these instances is tainted by the motive. The second is Manet's Olympia. The Other artist I am looking at is Ryan Mcginley. Another man, yes, but I really like his take on nudity. So there are some thoughts for the night. I'm going to think about dinner now.
