Special Olympics

My fair city is hosting the world wide Special Olympic Winter Games. It's en exciting thing, to see people all over town visiting from all over the world. All the events are open to the public and I want to check out the figure skating. There was also a scarf drive. They were asking for scarfs made in delft blue and white to be given to each participant, and they were hoping to collect 5,000. Yesterday afternoon the total was 55,189, with more coming in daily. There are scarves wrapped around a lot of the public statues and they are being given away, and people are donating money. The other great thing is that the fundraiser goal fell short due to the recession, but so much man power was donated that the money wasn't necessary. It's a big deal for Boise.

There are 2 people from our prefecture competing there. My conversation partner told me about it and wanted to know what city in Idaho it would all be happening in. She has been to Lewiston, and she met my parents. So she is interested in the good state of Idaho. This all sounds very exciting.
